Volunteers
in the Niagara Region are working together to achieve a dream come
true for Guatemala. The rural villages in Guatemala have experienced
ongoing droughts and lack of clean water for many years. Water supplies
are often contaminated resulting in an increase of malaria and severe
dysentery. There is an ongoing lack of food supplies, as a result
of the droughts, leaving families hungry and malnourished.
Our mission is to drill wells thereby providing rural Guatemalan
communities with a sustainable fresh water supply.
Wells of Hope has purchased water well drilling equipment which
will be driven to Guatemala next fall by a team of drilling volunteers.
The drilling equipment is currently in operation in Niagara to assist
with the financing of the operation. The cost of one well is approximately
$10 000 although all donations will be greatly appreciated. Sponsors
of a well will be recognized on a brass plate attached to the base
of the well. This project will bring clean water to villages which
will improve the health of the people, enable the successful growth
of crops, decrease hunger, decrease the mortality rate and also
train Guatemalans for future drilling of wells.
Wells of Hope Niagara will make a difference! Please be a part
of the success. The team leader, Ted van der Zalm, has ten years
of drilling experience in East Africa as a volunteer. Ted has recently
returned from six months in Guatemala where he partnered with the
local NGO and Guatemalan water department. The project includes
the construction of a water holding tank, delivery of water to each
household within the villages and eventually the implementation
of water irrigation systems for crop production.
Your contribution is tax deductible. Please make cheque payable
to "Wells of Hope" and use the enclosed return envelope.
